Frequently asked questions

What is the MCS-150?

The MCS-150 (Motor Carrier Identification Report) is the form FMCSA requires motor carriers, brokers, and freight forwarders to file to obtain or update a USDOT number. It must be updated at least every 2 years, even if nothing has changed.

Is this an official government website?

No. Interstate Filing Co. is an independent filing assistance service, not affiliated with FMCSA or the Department of Transportation. You can always file directly and for free at fmcsa.dot.gov.

Why would I pay you instead of filing for free myself?

Some carriers prefer a guided process and a review of their answers before submission, especially when short on time or unfamiliar with the form. If you're comfortable filing directly with FMCSA, that option is always free.

How long does filing take?

The questionnaire takes about 10 minutes. Once submitted and paid, our team typically reviews and files within 1-2 business days.

What information do I need before I start?

Your USDOT number (if you have one), EIN or SSN, legal business name, principal and mailing addresses, operation and cargo classifications, and approximate vehicle and driver counts.

Do you store my SSN?

We only collect the last 4 digits of your EIN or SSN for identity verification purposes. We do not store full SSNs.

Can I get a refund?

If we haven't yet submitted your filing to FMCSA, contact us at [email protected] and we'll issue a full refund.
